Biggest fan meets Big Time Rush!

Sometimes Peter Campos closes his bedroom door, turns on music by Big Time Rush and dances and sings to the songs by the popular band. To say he’s a huge fan of the music group is an understatement.

Peter sends the band letters and draws them fan photos, so it was an exciting moment for the 17-year-old when he found out he and his entire family not only would be seeing the band perform but also meeting band members this summer.

Peter was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect in 2011 and likely will need a heart transplant requiring the family to move out of the area for the procedure. He also has Down syndrome.

While he was at De Anza Junior High School, the school’s nurse advised the family that Peter might be eligible for the Make-a-Wish Foundation and was soon advised that he qualified. The foundation flew the entire Campos family to Birmingham, Ala., from July 9-13, when family members were treated to a limousine ride to the band’s concert and backstage.

Peter was able to speak and meet with each member of the band as well as to give them a T-shirt he made especially for them. His brother Sergio Campos Jr., 18, said the entire experience was “very fun. We’d never been in an airplane.”
”He’s very loving. He always says ‘hi’ to random strangers. He’s a people person,” Sergio said of his brother. “It was very fun. He liked it.”

A Make-A-Wish ambassador even left the family a present in the hotel room. Peter plays baseball, likes bowling, gives big tight hugs and attends Calexico High School. ”We are so grateful because they gave us the best for our son,” his mother, Lucila Campos, said. “It was such great news. We were so happy.”
